The Community Church of Akaroa
Banks Peninsula

Knowing the Heart of God at the Heart of the Community

Welcome To The Community Church of Akaroa
Banks Peninsula

We are an inclusive church, formed as a joint venture between Anglicans and Presbyterians on Banks Peninsula. Our parish includes congregations in Akaroa, Pigeon Bay, Little Akaloa, and Le Bons Bay. We meet for worship each week in Akaroa, and over the summer months also in the Bays. We try to share God’s love with each other and with our local communities. Come and join us on a Sunday, or help with one of our community activities. Everyone is welcome. You will find all the details below.

Big changes are happening!   Those of you with sharp eyes will have noticed that we are now the “Community Church” not the “Combined Church”. This change signals that we are now under joint Presbyterian and Anglican leadership,  currently beginning with oversight from the Alpine Presbytery. To read more in our new church’s constitution, read here.

Along with the new name is a change to become an inter-denominational church, where Christians of all varieties can join in worshipping and working for God and seeking  his Holy Spirit. We have always sought to be a valued part of the Akaroa and Peninsula community, and this will continue just the same. Our services are going to be more youth-focused, and we will continue to welcome families and children at Mainly Music, and in our Sunday worship.

Along with all this, we now have a new Minister – the first Minister of the new Community Church of Akaroa Banks Peninsula. She is Pauline Hampshire,  a Presbyterian minister from the Waikato. Pauline is Tauranga-born, and has had a career in Information Technology, working for major companies like Apple, Nintendo and Cisco, and living for 30 years in France. She has recently finished her training at Hope Presbyterian Church in Whangarei, and the Community Church will be her first parish. For more about Pauline, click herePauline is married to Simon, and they have three grown-up children. Simon has a “Skippers restricted limits” boating ticket and he has been a skipper for fishing charters and lake tourism in the past. For more about Pauline, click here.

Pauline and Simon will be moving to Akaroa in June, and her induction as Minister will take place on Sunday 29th June at 3.30pm . At the same time, there will be a service and celebration to mark the official opening of the Community Church – a joint venture between the Anglican and Presbyterian Churches.
