Mainly Music

STARTING AGAIN MONDAY 27 JANUARY!  Monday Mornings – 10am – 11.30am – Trinity Church Hall. You and your pre-schoolers and babies are welcome to come along! Any questions – please  contact Sue Church at akaroamainlymusic@gmail.com – or phone Sue on 304 7114

Mainly Music is a weekly session for pre-schoolers and their parents or caregivers, involving children and adults in singing, moving to music and playing percussion instruments. Monday mornings: 10am-11.30 at Trinity Church Hall, Akaroa. An experienced leader takes the children through a fun-filled half-hour of music, followed by a time for everyone to have a snack, children to play freely and adults to chat together. Mainly Music has proved to be really beneficial for children and adults in many churches throughout New Zealand, and has been run in Akaroa for 20 years. Monday mornings: 10am-11.30. Contact Sue Church on 304 7114 or email akaroamainlymusic@gmail.com

Church leadership

Since December 2023 we have had no minister or priest in charge.  However, services are continuing as usual with visiting clergy as celebrants and preachers. Please see our Newsletter post for details of the preacher/celebrant for the coming Sunday. We are currently looking for a minister, and hope to have positive news in the next week or two.

 NOTICES

Special Congregational Meeting

Last Sunday we were delighted to have Rev Pauline Hampshire join us in St Peter’s to “Preach for the Call”.  The church was full and we were treated to a very inspirational sermon from her. She had chosen the music which was a lovely mix of traditional, contemporary and reflective music.

Following the service we held a special congregational meeting to vote on the motion to recommend “That the Rev Pauline  Hampshire be called to be the Minister at the Community Church of Akaroa Banks Peninsula.” The motion was passed unanimously.

A report on the meeting and a recommendation now goes to the Alpine Presbytery Council to be voted on by them. If the recommendation is passed, a date will then be set for the Ordination and Induction of Pauline.

Prayer Meeting – please join us for prayer at Trinity Hall every Wednesday morning from 9.30 am until 10.15 am

Garden Service

On Sunday February 13th – 11 am we will be holding a Garden Service at Ken and Fiona Paulin’s, 281 Beach Road, to be followed by a shared picnic lunch. Please bring a chair, a drink of your choice and some finger food which can be shared. (This was postponed from 23rd January)

We would love to encourage members of our Bays congregations to join us for this occasion, which will be a farewell  to Ken and Fiona’s garden prior to their move to Rue Balguerie.

There will be someone at the bottom of the Paulins’ drive, showing you where to park.

In the event of wet weather, the service and shared lunch will take place at Trinity, at the same time of 11 am.

COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS LUNCH CANCELLED

In view of the uncertainty caused by the spread of the Delta virus, we have regretfully decided to cancel the annual Community Christmas lunch which was to have been held at Trinity Church Hall on Friday 26 November. In past years, many members of our local community have enjoyed attending these Christmas lunches, which come complete with ham and other Christmas goodies, as well as singing Christmas carols.

We sincerely hope that the Community Lunches will be able to resume again next year once the situation has settled down, as they have always been a popular community event.

Home Groups

Would you like to meet with a small group of others who want to explore what it means to be a follower of Jesus? In a small group we can all experience encouragement on our Christian journey, the opportunity to learn from God’s Word and from each other, and lots of laughter along the way. Currently there are two home groups which meet fortnightly, one in the daytime and one in the evening. The programme consists of a social time over food and drink, discussion of a Bible passage or Christian topic of interest, and prayer. To find out more, please contact Simon Tipping 03 304 8920
